Contacting the Ombudsman for Older People

The duties of the Ombudsman for older people involve promoting the realisation of the rights and best interest of the older people. People give feedback to and contact the Ombudsman for Older People who uses the information obtained in these manners for their advocacy work. The Ombudsman for Older People can introduce topics that are of importance for older people's rights for social discussion and decision-making.

Invitations for appearances and other invitations

The Ombudsman for Older People receives many invitations to various events. Please submit all invitations for appearances by and requests for audiences with Päivi Topo, the Ombudsman for Older People, to the official e-mail address at [email protected].

We ask all parties sending an invitation to consider how the Ombudsman for Older People's appearance in the event would promote the rights of older people and include a brief statement of reasons with the invitation.

Citizen contacts regarding the fulfilment of older people's rights

The Office of the Ombudsman for Older People welcomes messages on how the rights of older people are fulfilled. The Ombudsman for Older People uses the information obtained from these messages in their advocacy work. However, the Ombudsman for Older People does not have the competence to process or comment individual cases or change the decisions made by other authorities.

With regard to administration, the Ombudsman for older people operates in the administrative branch of the Ministry of Justice. The office of the Ombudsman is located in connection with the Office of the Non-Discrimination Ombudsman. The Ombudsman for older people is an autonomous and independent authority, however.
