Data protection and processing of personal data

Personal data are data that concern a person who is or can be identified. Data protection principles guide the processing of personal data and protect an individual’s privacy when personal data are processed.

The Ombudsman for older people only processes personal data for a legitimate reason. The purpose of processing of personal data is the recording, monitoring and processing of matters handled by the Ombudsman for the older people. The processing is based on consent given by the person who introduced the matter, or the Ombudsman for older people’s statutory duties provided by law.

You have the right to request access to or rectification or erasure of your personal data or restriction of processing of your personal data. In some cases, you may also have the right to object to the processing of your personal data.

You can request to access your personal data by contacting the registry of the Ombudsman for older people by email, post or telephone using the contact details shown below. You should include your telephone number in your request for information to make requesting additional information easier. Before you can be provided with the information you must prove your identity.

In Finland, compliance with data protection legislation is supervised by the Data Protection Ombudsman. Further information on your rights based on data protection legislation can be found on the website of the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman.
